My grandpa built the chook house for Nana's chooks years and years ago. But when he built the chook house, plans were something you used for real houses not the chook house!
So Nana's chookies had a warm, sturdy and functional house... but not very pretty by any stretch of the imagination!
The chook house sat up on the hill and provided good shelter for the chooks and plenty of room for them to roam around within the safety of the coop. So they were safe from animal predators, but it was the grandchildren who were the biggest problem. Checking the coop for eggs every few hours and often forgetting to latch it up properly. But it wasn't such a problem for Nana, she was the only one who could just call out to her chookies and they'd come wandering back into the coop.
But if only Grandpa had used some chook house plans then they wouldn't have had to have such an eyesore for their home!
